Goal Completed

034. Don’t go into work on a weekend for two months [more info]

Well there you go, I was reading through my goals list this morning and realised I finished one two weeks ago.

This goal I am particularly proud of, as it relates to realigning the work/home balance that had sadly gone astray last year. My goal was to get through eight weeks (or two months) without going into work on a weekend. This might not seem like a big deal, but when I lived in my old house it was easy to drive the seven minutes it took to get to the Kindergarten I work at and tidy up from Friday afternoon, set tables up or do my planning. Instead I’ve been working harder to get my work done on work time as opposed to in my own time.

It’s not to say that I’m still not working a bit at home on a Sunday afternoon (let’s face it, most teachers in the early childhood field are guilty of out-of-hours work), but the fact it isn’t done at work is a start.

Woohoo! Five goals down, many more in progress! πŸ˜€

034. Don’t go into work on a weekend for two months

20 01 2010

When will I have achieved this goal? When I can say that I didn’t go into work for eight consecutive weekends.

Why did I choose this goal? I’m usually running out of time at the end of the work day (time management is very much a theme in this list), and often go into the workplace on Sunday afternoon to get ready for the week ahead. I hope to change my habits and not go in for eight consecutive weekends, instead using my preparation time more effectively.

033. Complete a ‘Learning Journal’ entry once per week for the school year

20 01 2010

When will I have achieved this goal? When I can fill the book with journal entries and distribute it to parents at the end of the 2010 school year.Β

Why did I choose this goal? I completed a ‘Learning Journal’ for my Kindergarten group every week for six months in 2008 and 2009, but in 2010 I hope to complete it for the entire school year. Big ask, but do-able. πŸ™‚

032. Complete and apply for validation to become an ‘Accomplished Teacher’

20 01 2010

When will I have achieved this goal? When I put in my finished portfolio for the Validation process.

Why did I choose this goal? To be on the next payscale as a teacher and receive a substantial pay increase (see previous goal for more information). Also to stop being classed as a graduate teacher, as I’ve moved on from that.

031. Re-register for the Validation process

20 01 2010

When will I have achieved this goal? When I get all the signatures and register online to begin the Validation process.

Why did I choose this goal? Validation means moving from being classified as a graduate teacher to an ‘accomplished’ teacher. Graduates should only be in this classification for three years, but I’ve been in it for close to six years now (due to the classification system changing over in 2007 when I would have automatically gone up to the next payscale. I applied early last year, but life became too hectic and I didn’t start my portfolio. I have to apply six months before my ‘increment date’, which is February.

030. Better my time management skills around the start/end of Kindergarten sessions

20 01 2010

When will I have achieved this goal? This is more difficult to measure than most of the other goals on the list. I think this will be done when I’m consistantly in a routine of opening the door on time at the start/end of sessions. I reckon it’ll be a big work-in-progress (but at least it’s the start of a new school year, and therefore a new chance to impress/be on time).

Why did I choose this goal? Big goal this one… Teaching in a standalone Kindergarten (preschool) we don’t have bells and therefore when packing up the room at the end of the day – or getting the table activities ready at the beginning of the day – I have the tendency to run up to five minutes late. Big no-no, I really hope to change that this year.

029. Get my certificates/qualifications ready to start emergency teaching again

20 01 2010

When will I have achieved this goal? When my folder of certificates is current and ready to use again.

Why did I choose this goal? This goal works alongside several others. If I can get my Asthma/anaphylactic/police check qualifications back up to date again, I can start emergency teaching for an agency I was with in 2008. Since I only work 3.5 days per week, it gives me the opportunity to increase my income to save towards…oh, I don’t know…. a new camera! πŸ˜‰
