Meeting New Friends

3 06 2012

088. Meet five of my online friends in person that I’ve never met before (3/5) [more info]

Gina, an online friend of mine from a blogging community, was in Melbourne in early May and we arranged to meet up with her family while she was here. She also arranged to meet with a mutual friend of ours also by the name of Bec (from the same community; we’d never met each other either despite being in the same city).

So, with 6 children under age 5 between us (and two partners), we all met for a cafe lunch on a rainy Melbourne’s day!

Picture evidence, right? 😉

There isn’t a picture with all of us in a shot together so this will have to do!

Gina took this sneaky picture of me shooting one of Bec’s children! (see, I was there too!!)

044. Use an aeroplane toilet on the flight between Melbourne and Hobart [more info]

toiletThis goal is now complete!

I know, I know… sounds like an anti-climax but for someone who has been getting over a fear of flying for the past ten years, the small goal of unbuckling my seatbelt and getting up to use the bathroom on a short (1 hour) flight was a little terrifying. I knew that if I didn’t attempt it on the Christmas trip back from Tasmania, there would most likely not be a chance for another year or so.

Thankfully being pregnant does have its rewards (in this case, an irritable bladder that cannot wait :P).

St Andrews Market

042. Visit five markets I’ve never been to before (1/5) [more info]

My husband and I headed to St Andrew Market early this morning to pick up some organic fruit and vegetables, as well as soak up the late Summer air (this coming week will be the last of 30C days for the year, I predict!).

We got some fantastic produce and made a delicious soup tonight containing lentils, tomatoes, zucchini, capsicum, garlic, onion, celery, olive oil and ground coriander seed. Dense sourdough bread and raw honey finished it off perfectly. ❤

I am so very much a foodie, there’s just something about homemade food being a comfort and antidote to busy working life.

Canadian Bay

Goal complete: 037. Relax on a beach [more info]

My best friend Marisa decided to help me out so I could complete a goal from my list (she’s also working on a list of her own!), inviting me to the lovely Canadian Bay beach outside of Mt Eliza in south-eastern Melbourne. She has a personal tie to this beach and she talks about it often, and it was great to have the opportunity to see it for myself.

On the morning of January 30th, I set off with my husband Matt for the hour-long drive to the coast, meeting Marisa and two other friends there. We lay out our beach towels, curled out toes in the (hot!!) sand and ate a picnic lunch before venturing out into the water. I was hesitant about wearing a bikini in public, but it wasn’t until Marisa entered the water without a care in the world that I realised I could do this too… so I did.

I’d forgotten how wonderful it felt to submerge myself in water, and I vow to do this again more often – both experiencing salt water and perhaps doing a few laps at the local pool (I had a decent stroke as a teen).

Thanks Marisa for your inspiration! (see full entry for more pictures)

045. Celebrate my 30th birthday in style!

21 01 2010

When will I have achieved this goal? Plan and have a fantastic 30th birthday!

Why did I choose this goal? I turn 30 on March 7th, 2012 and I don’t want it to pass by without celebration.

044. Use an aeroplane toilet on the flight between Melbourne and Hobart (or vice versa)

21 01 2010

When will I have achieved this goal? When I can say I’ve successfully used an aeroplane toilet on a short flight.

Why did I choose this goal? Aeroplane flights frighten me a little at the best of times, and the hour-short flight between Melbourne and Hobart (which we take to visit my husband’s family a few times per year) means most of the time in the air is spent ascending or descending. Even with a full bladder I never have the courage to visit the toilet on one of these flights in case I’m thrown around the cubicle!

043. Travel to a country outside of Australia

21 01 2010

When will I have achieved this goal? When I have stepped onto the land of another country that isn’t Australia and blogged about it.

Why did I choose this goal? This is a big goal, and something that may or may not be completed due to circumstances in the next couple of years (if I don’t fall pregnant in 2010 we’re planning a holiday). Asia would be top of our list – my husband and I would love to re-visit Japan, or possibly Korea.

042. Visit five markets that I’ve never been to before

21 01 2010

When will I have achieved this goal? When I have visited five markets (any kind) for the first time.

Why did I choose this goal? Because I love markets… The variety of handmade goods, the produce, walking around – it’s all so relaxing. Now that I’ve moved house, I’m nearer to a variety of semi-rural and rural markets that I’ve never been to (or considered) before.

041. Watch a sunset from the highest naturally-formed point in Melbourne

21 01 2010

When will I have achieved this goal? When I have taken a picture while watching a Melbourne sunset from the highest point that isn’t a building, and posted about it afterwards.

Why did I choose this goal? Watching the sun set is a surreal thing, and too many times I watch them from within windows. It’s time for me to get outside and take advantage of the hill near my new house which gives a spectacular view of Melbourne.

040. Attend a different kind of convention

21 01 2010

When will I have achieved this goal? When I have attended a different sort of convention and blogged about it.

Why did I choose this goal? Because there are more conventions out there than anime-related ones. Time to broaded my mind a little!
